It’s Not How You Sow, It’s What You Sow

Word-Of-The-Day: ‘(7) Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (8) Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (9) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’ (Galatians 6:7-9)

As abortion and other anti-Christian issues continue to percolate in American politics, it seems the unrighteous organizations that support these issues are ramping up their devices to be more ‘in-your-face’.  An example is the Planned Parenthood’s mobile unit that is being set up in Chicago to coincide with the Democratic National Convention.  This mobile unit is capable of providing abortions, vasectomies, and contraception to those walking in.  Though it is likely not too many will accept their free services, it is a sign of the times that one can get an abortion like one can get a meal, from the venue of a mobile truck stopping near your place of business or your neighborhood, making such an unsavory act both quick and convenient.

The Apostle Paul provides in Galatians 6 that we should in Righteous fellowship hold each other accountable and constructively criticize those who do wrong.  However, there are those who, upon being informed of their wrongdoing, double down and double their sinful actions.  The acts of the sinner who doubles down are doing so in selfish pride; it makes them feel strong go against those who are telling them not to, that they can flout their sin without apparent consequence or suffer no shame.  They find appeal not in the Righteous minority but the unrighteous majority among the people.  The increase of sinful lifestyles now in the open is due to the unrighteous banding together in unity to show this strength in numbers and to feel the perceived power of flouting their sin openly.

Paul, however, provides that sin only produces more sin, and since sin leads to destruction and death the outcome is predictable, even in the physical realm as it will become in the Spiritual realm.  Disease, squalor and mental anguish eventually overcomes most of the sinners in mortal life, and those fortunate enough to escape it’s grasp in their mortality will, without God, suffer Spiritually in eternity separated by God in the Lake of Fire.

There is an answer to avoid this fate, even if one is well on their way down this road.  Galatians 6:8b-9 tells us that if we live in Righteousness, do Righteous acts to please only God and not ourselves or others, accepting His gift of Jesus as Christ and savior, then we will be saved and have Eternal life with Him.  We who are saved by Jesus’ grace may suffer disease, squalor and mental anguish as well for past indiscretions but we live knowing we are forgiven and we can use our past indiscretions both as a warning for others not to do what we’ve done and to show there can be an escape and a better alternative than the life of indwelling in secular sin and debauchery.

A mobile lunch truck can be a good thing to have in the parking lot of your business or on the street of your neighborhood.  A mobile abortion clinic, not so much.  Many things are like this today; the convenience of the internet allows the sharing of God’s Word almost instantaneously but it also allows sinful activities to also be shared as quickly.  It is not the method of delivery but what is being delivered; as Paul said, what one sows – not necessarily how they provide it – is what proves Righteous or unrighteous crops.  We can fight for making sin illegal, but we should first make sin immoral to a secular world.  It is the morality of the secularist that makes it permissible for such things to be promogulated and distributed to the masses.

As Christians, our sowing needs to be the Word of the Lord, His Gospel message of Jesus’ grace and forgiveness, and demonstrating His Spirit of Righteousness, to show what is moral, to provide a contrast of what the world provides.  Do good, speak good, and promote only good things that are Godly to sow the seeds that produce Righteousness!
