December 2 – Day 3
Isaiah 9:2–7
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone… For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…
Isaiah 9 begins with a world in darkness. The people of Israel, broken by sin, lived under the shadow of death and judgment. But, into that darkness God spoke a promise, not of more rules or better kings, but of a child.
For to us a child is born…(v. 6)
It is Amazing! God’s answer to the evil and darkness in this world is a baby, and not just any baby, but One who would be called:
- Wonderful Counselor; perfect in wisdom
- Mighty God; divine in power
- Everlasting Father; caring and eternal
- Prince of Peace; the bringer of wholeness and rest
This is no ordinary child. Isaiah points us forward to Jesus. The Light of the World who entered our darkness to overcome it.
In a season when we often feel the heaviness of the world, this prophecy speaks directly to our hearts: the light has come, and the darkness cannot overcome it.
What does it mean to you that Jesus is your Prince of Peace?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for shining Your light into our darkness. In Jesus, You give us wisdom, strength, peace, and hope. Help us not to trust in our own efforts, but in Your Son, our Mighty God and Prince of Peace. Amen.
