three kings looking at the north star

December 14 – Day 15

Matthew 2: 1-2

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

In this scripture we are told many things.

  1. Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea.
  2. Herod was the King over Judah.
  3. Magi came from the east to Jerusalem
  4. They were looking for “He who was born King of the Jews”.
  5. They had seen His star in the east.
  6. They had come to worship this King of the Jews.
  7. Herod and all of Jerusalem did not like any of this.

Scholars believe that approximately two years have passed between chapters one and two. (This is because Herod had all male children two years and under killed.)

The magi served as religious government officials from an ancient Babylonian caste, and their practices included astrology, demonology, wisdom, and magic. Because of the Jewish community in their homeland, the magi would have known of the prophesy of the birth of Jesus, and the star that would lead to Him.

The magi were looking for a King to worship and to give gifts to. They were not looking for a saviour and did not recognise the child they found as the Son of God and the Saviour of all mankind who would accept Him as Lord of their lives.

How many people know about Jesus today, but do not know Him? Head knowledge will not get you into eternity with God. Heart knowledge, a personal relationship with Jesus is the ONLY WAY !!

If you have that heart knowledge, shouldn’t you share it with others? Give the gift that truly matters this Christmas Season.

Tell someone about the gift that God has given the world.

JESUS THE ONLY NAME THAT SAVES.
