Who Will Not Betray Us?
Word-Of-The-Day: ‘(2) My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me. (3) When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. (4) In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’ (Psalm 56:2-4)
Men will betray; governments will turn against their own citizens. Throughout history, this has been proven time and again. Whatever is man-made can collapse, whether it is buildings, roads, or monetary systems. There are photos of the old Weimar Republic of Germany (post-World War I/pre-Nazi) where in order to buy a loaf of bread, people would be carrying wheelbarrow loads of ‘deutschmarks’ (Germany’s ‘dollars’) to the bakery. Many who were considered rich prior to this saw their wealth go to virtually zero as their savings lost all value.
It can (and has) happened here in the US; it happened during the Great Depression of the 1930s and even today the ‘cash value of money’ dwindles; the 1990 ‘dollar’ had the same purchasing power as $2.30 does today. So, trusting your money will be worth something may not be what you believe it will be (though it is still prudent to save and hopefully at a ‘over-the inflation’ interest rate).
If we can’t trust our money, or our government, can we trust our friends or family? We always would like to think so, but there have been many cases where that has been proven not to be the case. The trial of Alex Murdaugh found him guilty of killing his wife and son; their trust in him to care for them was betrayed by his actions. Abel likely trusted Cain, and probably didn’t question why his brother picked up the rock until it was too late. So, while these are extreme cases, we likely have had family members – even close ones – provide us reasons to mistrust them.
But there is One who we can always trust, our Lord Jesus! Jesus never forsakes us, neither will He break His promises made to His followers. Where man fails, Jesus stands firm. Even in a blessed, favorable life where finances, friends, and family are all rock-solid, eventually time provides the failure of our bodies, but when that happens, Jesus stands firm. His promise to deliver His Faithful followers to His Father’s presence for all Eternity is steadfast; there should never be any doubt in the heart of the Believer where their Eternity will be! God’s Plan is to bless His people, to provide us Joy and contentment. If there is anything one can ‘take to the bank’ it is Jesus’ promise that He will intercede for His people and deliver us into our Father’s arms!
