Unlike Us, God Is Never Surprised

Word-Of-The-Day: ‘Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge Him. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.’ (Hosea 6:3)

Routines and habits are something that get interrupted in our lives, but for God His routines are never interrupted.  We get surprised and react to events that will take us out of our daily steps; mine is getting up, opening the blinds, taking my vitamins and medications (being old and decrepit, this comes with the territory), then checking our cats’ water, food, and litter box before logging into work and my personal laptop. After ensuring all is well or taking care of any outstanding issues I then get into the shower at some point to become presentable to the outside world.

The above routine can be interrupted by seen or unseen events, such as a planned vacation, an unplanned trip, a knock on the door or an unexpected call.  We only think and perceive what will happen each day; most days follow the routine that we set but then there are days that take us out of that routine.

For God, His omnipotence and timeless existence throughout eternity allows for Him to never be surprised and does not give Him any reason to break His routines unless He Himself has planned to do so.  We often take for granted some of these routines that he has set in motion for us; the sun’s rising and setting each day, the seasonal changes, the fact our heart beats and our lungs breathe without us thinking about it.  The Earth continues its rotation, and its revolution around the Sun; all while the routines discussed in Ecclesiastes all continue in the same steps.  Even our mortal lives are routine; we are born, we live for a period of time, then we pass.  The duration may vary but the steps are the same for each of us.

Never forget that the Lord’s routine is the outline that we live by; while there is variety between each of us (some of us drive Kias while some drive Fords, for example) there is more commonality in our daily routines due to God’s unchanging routine being paramount in all of our lives.  We should never take God’s routine for granted, and remember His Plan is always superior to our desires.  The best life we can live is when we match our desires to His Plan; and our routines match up to His routine.
