The specialness of mothers
Have you ever thought about the fact that if your parents didn’t have children, you won’t either?
Mothers are imperative if you are to exist! Some of you might have had a difficult or maybe even antagonistic or non-existent relationship with your mom. For that, I am so sorry. The impact of a mother in a life is immeasurable, both positively and negatively, depending on the relationship. As much as we want to hold them up high, we realize that they, like us, are flawed, sinful people in need of a Savior.
Paul speaks to Timothy (2 Timothy 1:3-5) saying, “I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.” Paul’s joy was in the remembrance of the faith (in Christ) that was first planted and cultivated by a grandmother and a mom. Their own faith had grown deep and strong and the fruitfulness of their lives was not only in physically birthing Timothy, but even more in the spiritual upbringing and birth of his faith in Christ Jesus.
There is nothing more precious than a child carried for nine months, born and later coming to faith in Christ. The child, son or daughter becomes a brother or sister in Christ for all eternity. Proverbs 31 tells us of the virtuous woman, and so look with me at verse 28, “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” This is true of my wife, for whom I am so thankful on this day we honor and hold high the title of MOM.
