The right choice

When is it the right time to do the right thing?  Seems like an easy question, huh?  I mean, isn’t it always the right time to do the right thing?  If so, why don’t we do it?  Why do we continue in patterns of destructive behavior — sin — when we know it isn’t the right thing?  Why do we continue in our selfishness and self-centeredness when it causes rifts and issues in our marriage or other relationships?  Why do we fail to forgive readily when asked?  Why do we pursue our passions and desires even when we know that they will not please God or result in our obedience? Why do we remain in relationships and compromising situations when they are contrary to God’s timing?

Some might say this is what makes us human. (To err is human.)  This is a picture of man in all his sinfulness after Genesis 3, but this is not the design and purpose of God for abundant life for you.  John 10:10 is clear that all those thoughts and actions that are contrary to God’s design, purpose and timing are designs of the enemy to steal, kill and destroy us.  God’s plan is that we experience life, abundant life, life like God originally intended.

So the next time you are faced with obedience to God or chasing you own desires, remember it is always the right time to do the right thing: obeying God.

Remember the words of this hymn?

When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds in our way!
While we do His good will
He abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus
Than to trust and obey.

Pressing on…
