The hand of God is no coincidence
Has something ever happened to you and you think, “What a coincidence?” This week as I was reading with our group through Esther 6 it struck me that many would read this passage and say “What a coincidence.” Yet those who trust God to be all He says He is see the very hand of God in the steps of this chapter: the sleeplessness, the very book the king reads, the fact that nothing was done for Mordecai in the past, that Haman in his pride while at the same time harboring such hate for Mordecai is the one in the gates of the palace.
All this happens as if by script, when in fact it is all at the plan and hand of God. How much more should we trust in the timing and provision of the Lord?
It is not randomness or coincidence when someone asks you if they can pray for you. Nor when you notice the faithfulness and hand of God at work around you. And for sure it is not a coincidence when you sit in a worship service or Bible study class and it seems as if the teacher or pastor has been clued into the details of your life the last week or so. This is the Holy Spirit at work in and around you to draw you to trust and follow Christ. So what is it you need to be thankful for that God has done without you even asking — and sometimes not even knowing you had a need to begin with?
On another note, notice at the end of the chapter the reaction of the wife and friends when Haman reveals the nationality of Mordecai as Jewish. Their counsel is that Haman will continue to fall before Mordecai. Why? Not because of who Mordecai is, but because of the God of the Jews and Mordecai. And God has promised the ultimate victory of the Jews over the Amalekites of whom Haman is descended. God does not forsake His children nor His promises, no matter the amount of time that passes. And it is never a coincidence!
