The facts about feelings
Looking at the narrative we covered on Sunday, it would be a good question to ask ourselves, “If I had been there (or find ourselves in a similar situation today) and had the microphone to address the assembly, what would I have said? Would I have my eyes fixed on the giants in front of me, or would I have my eyes fixed on the constant faithfulness of God?”
The giants weren’t the obstacle, nor was the task before the nation of Israel. The obstacle was in their minds and hearts. Once again, we see what happens when we allow our feelings (the people are giants and we are grasshoppers) be the engine of our life. The facts of the situation are the numerous and supernatural workings of God on their behalf and the promise He gave to Abraham to take and give Abraham and his descendants a land flowing with milk and honey.
This is another example of trusting feelings — rather than facts — which ultimately causes us to face an imminent train wreck. Trusting feelings leads to a train wreck throughout the Wilderness for the next 40 years as this generation dies off due to their rebellion and disobedience. The 10 trusted their feelings. Joshua and Caleb clung to the facts. What is driving your life: feelings of facts?
