Pray For Our Leaders To Rule In Righteous Common Sense
Word-Of-The-Day: ‘(21) My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; (22) they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. (23) Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. (24) When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.’ (Proverbs 3:21-24); ‘The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of sense.’ (Proverbs 10:21)
Over the weekend, the current Presidential administration has authorized American missiles to be used by Ukraine to attack deep into Russian territory beyond the front-lines of the current Russo-Ukrainian conflict. This may be simply an attempt, by way of creating an international dilemma, to stick mud in the eye of the incoming administration in roughly 60 days from now, which has been focused on resolving internal issues involving the government first.
The concern is this foolish decision may precipitate a domino effect that will engulf the world into a global conflict and possibly the escalation into a full-scale nuclear exchange by the major global powers. Let’s pray common sense and wisdom overcomes hurt feelings.
It would be prudent, given the sensitivity of the situation, to think of the nation as a whole and the people to avoid such a scenario. Unfortunately, when feelings overrule the facts, we see discretion and judgement being secondary to the satiation of want. The perception of satisfying a feeling to ‘one-up’ an opponent or rival to the point of hurting one’s self or others to gain that pyrrhic advantage. Such decisions, often made out of spite, do no one any benefit and in many cases hurt more than just the two parties in competition. It would be wiser to defer the decision for the benefit of the nation. As stated in Proverbs 10:21, if feelings overcome common sense, the results may be damaging, even to the point of death.
We find in many cases, such as the one mentioned above, are the result of lack of common sense by those who are in leadership positions. It goes from the mundane (groups encouraging people to eat bugs) to the very serious possibility of detainment (pundits and politicians advocating the restriction of liberties for political opponents up to forced imprisonment).
We as Christians must resist these concepts and allow God’s wisdom to prevail. We are very fortunate (at least those of us that live in southwest Florida) to live free and without much persecution. However, all it will take is that one election cycle or that one decree or that one disaster to change our status quo. It may be quick or it may be slow and drawn out, but one day persecution or deprivation will come to us, unfortunately. We must remain Faithful and follow God’s wisdom and maintain Righteousness, and be prepared when that fateful day comes. We may find temporary comfort and peace in ‘going with the flow, but at what point will ‘following’ become ‘aiding and abetting’? Even doing ‘nothing’ will be doing something not to prevent or to resist the unrighteous.
It is up to us, as Christians, to pray for our leaders to have sound judgement to make wise decisions. As stated in Proverbs 3:21-24, with the Lord’s guidance in these decisions we have His protections and be able to sleep in peace knowing His hand is over us. We can live in the confidence that the Lord is with us, if we include Him in our decisions and we continue to worship Him unconditionally and completely.
Christians need to stand up for Righteousness and not be concerned for temporary comfort and peace here, but permanent eternal peace and comfort. Speak the Truth, proclaim Jesus as Lord, be Righteous and press for common sense. (And eat steak or chicken – just don’t eat the bugs!)
