Pray For America – & All Americans – To Turn Away From Sin & Toward God

Word-Of-The-Day: ‘(17) Let the priests, who minister before the Lord, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say, “Spare Your people, Lord. Do not make Your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’ ” (18) Then the Lord was jealous for His land and took pity on His people. (19) The Lord replied to them: “I am sending you grain, new wine and olive oil, enough to satisfy you fully; never again will I make you an object of scorn to the nations.”’ (Joel 2:17-19)

We are living in a tumultuous time.  One could say it is better to live now with our modern conveniences and technology.  We have social media, smartphones, on-line ordering, etc. to keep us busy, and we have all been living in the lap of ‘luxury’ for some time, compared to the ‘old days’, before HVAC, TV, cars, food, toilet paper and running water/indoor plumbing were ever thought of. 

During the shutdowns of COVID or the interruptions caused by hurricanes here in southwest Florida, we’ve experienced a very small taste of the reality that the majority in the world has had to endure; when going to the grocery store and found shelves bare, or queuing in lines to wait to enter the store for the chance to get one of the last packs of hot dogs, or toilet paper.  These events often rationed milk, water, and bread.

But our best convenience are our freedoms, but we’ve also tasted how it would be if those freedoms were removed.  It wasn’t long ago when pundits talked of needing a vaccine and having a vaccination certificate to have the ability to shop, travel and go into public areas; and in other countries like Australia the rounding up and ‘quarantining’ those without such papers into ‘quarantine centers’ actually occurred, without recourse and with force. 

Our government is plagued by scandals, becoming a punchline in a comedy routine but with serious consequences, where our more ‘woke’ politicians, pundits, and press sound like stand-ups competing to out-do the others with outrageous behavior and commentaries (regardless of party affiliation or orientation).

The nation started to go toward a restriction of rights, stepping away from the Constitution and the Bible.  It appeared that we the American People, who have had the freedoms, the luxuries, and the blessings of our Almighty God for almost 250 years, are living in a time where God has saw fit to strip those blessings away.  We saw the embrace of sin in our culture, without many Christians speaking to others about the Truth of the Gospel. 

Though the movement is swinging in the other direction, the US is where Israel was at the time of Jeremiah, a nation that was founded by God, for God and made to worship God but has done everything else except remember who God is, and it shows by the number of other non-Christian, ‘cool’ religions that have popped up in the last 50-75 years.  Those who practice these ‘cool’ religions will eventually find them ‘too hot to handle’, but it’ll be too late – unless they turn to Christ.

If we want to see the US return to its former self (and with the caveat that the Lord decides the Tribulation needs more time to simmer, like a century or two, before it truly begins), we all need to read and do what Joel 2:17-19 says; we are all priests as followers of Christ, so this is what WE ALL need to do – pray for all Americans to turn away from their sins, and turn toward God.  Turning away of the sins of oppression, and the sins of silence, and ask our Lord to spare us from collective unbelief, ignorance, and faithlessness.

There are two things we can do as Christians now, as the timing is right – especially with the recent awakening of the American people due to the tragedies of last week; the death of a young woman on a train and a young man assassinated for speaking the Truth.  First, take action politically and be involved. Research, examine, and then vote for the candidate who is best for conservative, Christian values, one who speaks the Truth, not just for the initial of the party next to their name. 

The fact is it is more important to do this at the local level first; the School Board (as this affects our children), the City and County levels of Government (these levels directly affect our daily lives most), then the State and finally the Federal levels.  If someone is light on crime or are against constitutional rights, they aren’t conservative and probably not truly Christian.  If you’re feeling really froggy, run for office – even an advisory board or citizen oversight board position can be influential to providing Truthful insights to our local governance.

Second, due to this political awakening of the normal, middle-of-the-road American populace; this means there is a ripe field of the multitude who may be ready to hear the Truth of the Gospel.  Be a Great Commission Christian as we are called to be (Matthew 28:16-20, Acts 1:7-8) and share the Word with boldness and courage.  After hearing the lies of the enemy for so long, people are yearning for the Truth – go tell them the Truth of Jesus!

We need to ask God to come back into our lives and the life of our nation, and pray that He turns our nation again back into the Land of the Good and Plentiful harvest, if it is not too late; if it is we need to pray for our Lord not to delay but to take His people if it is in His will and timing to do so.  May our Lord have Mercy upon us.
