High risk?

Wednesday night we watched the documentary Truth Rising, produced by Focus on the Family and the Colson Center, among others.  When I viewed this before scheduling a time for the church to watch it, I was struck by a phrase from one of those sharing: “The high risk Christian life.”  I had to think about this for a while.  Does this phrase mean “the super Christian class?”  Or those who are super obedient?  Or even super daring?  I immediately thought of Jude 3, “Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”

If you have seen, or when you do see this film, I want you to realize that all are called, though all are not called to the same opportunities, platforms, or spheres of influence.  We are all called to follow, to share and when needed to defend the faith.  The question is faithfulness in those areas where God wants to use each believer for the advancement of truth and the Kingdom.

In this film we can see the testimony of those who stand in the face of greater opposition that you might on your street, but in both arenas the call is to faithfulness.  The “high-risk Christian life” should be the goal for all believers to live on a wartime footing as the Kingdom of God advances against the forces and powers of darkness.  Make sure you armor is on, your mind and heart sharpened by the sword of truth and ready to move forth in the name of the Lord.  We don’t battle people, but ideas and the powers of darkness.  And this is high risk — risk of rejection, cancellation and ostracization. But my identity is secure in Christ, where there is no rejection, cancellation or ostracization.  I hope you have watched or will watch this film to be awakened to, aroused by and encouraged in the defense of the faith delivered once for all (settled) to the saints.  Opinions and feelings  change, but truth remains fixed and firm in the character of our God.

Pressing On…
