God Leads Our Nation, Our Families, & Our Leaders

Word-Of-The-Day: ‘From one man He made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.‘ (Acts 17:26); ‘He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.’ (Daniel 2:21)

We are at the end of the first year of Donald Trump’s second term as our 47th President, and whether you are a staunch ‘Make America Great Again’ MAGA Republican, a live-and-let-live Libertarian, or a more liberal Democrat; whether you approve of Trump wholeheartedly or are a ‘Never-Trumper’ to the core, we all have to admit 2025, with Trump as President, was non-stop with action and change from his administration.

This post is not to give a critique on this President or his Presidency.  Instead, this is about God’s overall plan for how man will be governed until He brings about the Eternal Kingdom of Jesus seen at the end of Revelation.  God has always had a hierarchy of governance demonstrated in the Bible to maintain order, even as people fell away from Faith in Him.  However, the best governance is one that includes God first and foremost.

‘America First’ is a good slogan and general approach, in my opinion, but the best way to govern the United States would be for all to follow a ‘God First, America Second’ philosophy, as God has always intended that He be the ultimate authority for man.  Nations, over the course of history have fallen away from God – even His people, Israel – but God always maintains, and eventually reestablishes, His preeminence over us.

The first tier of governance is the family unit.   In Ephesians 5:21-33 we find the hierarchy of husband as head of the household and wife as serving toward her husband, both in a symbiotic and loving relationship with each other, but with the husband leading and his family following.  The children are to honor their parents by submitting to their leadership (Ephesians 6:1-4,  Exodus 20:12).  In God’s plan He is over the family, supporting them to remain standing and upright, a strong cord of the three strands of the ‘rope’ tying together the family; God, husband, and wife (Ecclesiastes 4:12).

In the example given by the story of Israel, individual families grouped together with their relatives in their clan, then the clan grouped with other clans related by a son of Jacob or Israel, in a tribe.  The twelve tribes together formed the nation of Israel.  It was always God’s intention to be their King, and not for them to have someone between He and them.  Moses and Joshua were God’s chosen men to convey His governance to the Israelites, and after Joshua a series of ‘Judges’ were used.

But Israel could not hold onto their Faith, and fell away from God and shifted their desire from God being their King to having an earthly King.  God allowed Israel’s free will to select Saul as their first King, and God set David to be their King when Saul stumbled, and He set up David’s lineage to be the basis of the Eternal Kingdom, which Jesus is part of.

This happened with the other nations of the world; they turned away from God, and as they coalesced and grew from family to clan to tribe to nation, they often had the ‘rope’ missing the strong cord of God.  But God nevertheless rules the nations, and steers them to do His bidding for His purpose.  Assyria, Babylon, and Persia were all used to steer Israel back to Him.  The Roman Empire was used in Jesus’ time as the government to contrast His Kingdom that was to come.  Jesus’ message is for us to obey, up to a point, the government over us (Romans 13:1), that point being obeying the government in charge would be disobedience to Him.

The United States is unique in the sense that our governance is set up as a Republic led by the Constitution, an instrument that the Founding Fathers believed was divinely inspired by God based upon God-given inalienable rights to man in the Bill of Rights (the first ten amendments of the Constitution).  The free will of man, led by God, would allow the proper government to form and the proper leadership to be selected.  As our nation turns 250 years old in 2026, we can see through history that we do elect the men (and women when we include Congress) we desire to lead us, and they are often the men (and women) we deserve.  All the men elected President of the United States, including President Trump, were set in place by God for His purpose, following our free will.

God desires, whether we agree or disagree, to fall under and accept the leadership of our current President and the next President following him until Jesus returns to establish once and for all the Eternal Kingdom that He will lead, forever and ever.   The United States has a record of vacillating between those who follow God are elected to lead, giving us that strong cord to strengthen our collective rope that binds us, and those who ignore God which weakens us.  In three years, a new President will be elected, pray for the Lord to provide us discernment to elect the person who is Godly, as the person who is Godly and of God is the one we should desire and the one we deserve to lead us, with God leading overall.
