December 11 – Day 12
Luke 2:8-12
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
We are in the fields outside of Bethlehem in “The City of David” tending to our flocks just like any other night. When all of a sudden scaring us to death there appears to us an angel of the Lord standing in our midst declaring “do not be afraid for behold I bring you tidings of great joy…”
Are you kidding, the light was so bright shining all around us. Well, I can reassure you he got our attention. We were spellbound to hear what he had to say. I have a question for you, has the Lord ever held you amazed and spellbound? I have and when that light comes on I am overwhelmed.
But let’s go back to the fields and listen to what this angel of the Lord has to say to these shepherds. He continues on by declaring that this great joy is a message for all people everywhere.
I can’t wait to hear this message. He goes on to say, “this will be a sign to you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” This is astonishing news, we have to go into Bethlehem and see this great sign.
Reflecting back, let’s praise him for his coming to save mankind. Have you taken the greatest gift ever given into your heart as your Lord and Savior?
So now looking forward to that great day that we celebrate the birth of our Savior in this Christmas season. We should never get over the amazement of his humble beginning by coming into this world as a little baby lying in a manger.
