God creating eearth

Advent Devotional – Day 1

Today’s reading is from Genesis 1:1–2:7

My focus is on Genesis 1:1 & 2:7 (ESV) 1In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 7And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so.

Advent doesn’t begin in Bethlehem; its very start is at the beginning of all things.

Before there was a stable, before there was a cross, before time began God was there. With a word, He shaped the heavens and the earth. With His breath, He gave life to mankind.

At the start of this Advent season, let’s remember that everything starts with God. He is the Creator of all things, not just the things we see. He also set plans in motion. One of which was His wonderful plan of redemption. A story that begins in Genesis and leads all the way to the manger in Bethlehem.

When God breathed the breath of life into Adam, it was a foreshadowing that something greater was coming. One day, God Himself would take on flesh. Jesus, the second Adam would not just bring life, but eternal life to all who believe in Him.

The world that He formed is broken, groaning under sin. Advent reminds us that God hasn’t abandoned His creation. He is still speaking light into darkness. And He is still breathing new life into the hearts of those who receive His Son.

As we begin this Advent season, take a moment to reflect on the greatness of our Creator. What part of your life needs His light? Where do you need Him to breathe new life today?

Prayer for today: Creator God, You formed all things by Your word and gave life by Your breath. As I begin this Advent journey, awaken in me a fresh sense of wonder and hope. Thank You for not leaving us in the dark but for sending Jesus to be the Light of the world. Amen.
