A New Year Always Brings Some Hope; Our Savior Brings All Hope
Word-Of-The-Day: ‘But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. (Hebrews 3:6)
It’s the end of another calendar year. A new year always brings some hope; this will be the year Publishers Clearing House knocks on the door, or this will be the year my football, baseball, basketball, and/or hockey team wins the title, or this will be the year I retire from my employer. The first two items are out of any control on our end (even if you own the team in question, you can’t guarantee a championship – ask Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys), and the last item I have been threatening for the last couple of years but 2024 it will most likely occur – maybe.
Hope is a desire or an expectation of a future event will occur. ‘I hope I get a new car’ is a wishful desire that a new car comes my way. Having good credit, if this desire is strong a car is certainly obtainable (unless the interest rate is high, then it’s a big no for me). If I have no money or credit to go buy a new car, then the expectation is I’ll win the car in a raffle or a billionaire will take pity and out of the kindness of his heart will gift me a new car. The former is possible, the latter is highly improbable (though the chances are never zero, just very, very, very low).
This hope is best achieved, then, when one puts themselves in position to fulfill that desire. This includes the Hope we have in Jesus. The hope in getting a new car is most likely to be fulfilled if we position ourselves properly, through saving some money back for a down payment, shopping for a good interest rate, and comparing prices among different dealerships. The Hope of Jesus and the blessings he can fulfill is best anticipated in us following and accepting Him and His Word closely, learning more His ways, fellowshipping with other believers, and studying His Word to gain better understanding. We know the Lord keeps His promises, so Hope in the Lord is akin to waiting for a joyful, inevitable conclusion and fulfillment of our desire to be with Him.
Help spread this Hope by sharing the Word, the Gospel message, of Jesus to others. You’ll find your Hope will become fulfilled with the Joy of the Spirit when doing what Jesus has asked us to do, in the Great Commission. Doing what the Lord has asked us to do is like adding to our savings, but it is to receive something far better than a car; a life eternal with Him! The Good News is even if nothing is saved up, if you’ve trusted and accepted Jesus, you will have Hope fulfilled!
