Trust In The Lord – Don’t Worry Or Ignore But Have Faith!
Word-Of-The-Day: ‘Those who know Your Name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.’ (Psalm 9:10)
Though we live in a time where it seems, in a myopic sense, the path of destruction our nation was on is in reverse; we look outside of it and find the rest of the world has great turmoil. Europe is boiling over Muslim immigration overrunning their nations and political correctness that refuses to face it; the Ukrainian-Russian conflict now years long, that continues to bleed men from both sides; and changing geopolitical map that sees Russia, China, and India perhaps coming together in a great alliance against the United States and the Western-aligned nations.
Some may consider this the verge of the beginning of the End Times, and begin to worry about the repercussions these events will eventually have. Others will place their proverbial heads in the sand, with their fingers in their ears, and attempt to ignore the situation at hand. Neither action is what the Lord wants us to do. Psalm 9 is one of Thanksgiving, written by David, that in essence provides that God is in control of all these events. David is aware of these things happening around him, but he also understands that worry or ignorance will not resolve anything. The only thing that can fix and repair such things is the Lord, and we need to have Faith in Him and His plan.
From the ‘macro’ of geopolitics, the growth of Islamic culture overtaking Europe may seem to be overwhelming, especially to the native Europeans. What can they do? The ‘Eastern axis’ forming between Russia, China, and India may be the embryo of the Biblical ‘Magog and Gog’ alliance, but can we simply ignore the implications of this, even if the Rapture may remove us before the Judgements occur? These may loom large, but we must rely in the Lord and trust Him. Faith is not just something that we ignore events, but in Faith to look at the Lord to lead us through and guide us in our steps to deal with the ongoing results of these and other news items occurring around us.
In the ‘micro’ of our personal lives, we must realize that we do not control any of our possessions or income. We may be able to influence our possessions (save some back, spend too much, make improvements, etc.) but we have no control over anything. Many here have pensions or collect social security; some of us work. What happens when the boss calls and says ‘you’re fired’ or the letter comes stating the pension funds are dried up? What if that day comes when a hurricane or flooding ravages your home, or your car gets totaled in an accident? Things can happen in life unexpectedly.
These things we cannot ignore or set aside. However, through the Lord’s guidance, we can be prepared. Joseph was led by the Lord to prepare Egypt and its neighbors (including Canaan) for a severe famine. The Lord, through Jeremiah, prepared the Faithful of Israel for their exile to Babylon. Some things, however, we may not be able to mitigate with preparation but we can remain Faithful to the Lord and through the storms (figuratively and literally) allow Him to lead us to higher ground.
I often look at Job, who was at the top of his game; successful businessman with great wealth who suddenly had to deal with the loss of everything he had, to include his children and his health. Everything described above happened to him, all at once (even his horse-pulled Cadillac coach was t-boned, I surmise). But we also see in Job the message behind Psalm 9:10, ‘Trust in God and trust in His Son Jesus’. Job knew that he was in control of nothing, that even in preparation he could not stop the catastrophes that befell him, but the one thing that could never be taken away is his relationship with God.
I’ve read stories where people have been in accidents, perhaps in a coma, and later recover, but wake up to find their businesses are gone, their savings have dried up. Many have recently lost their livelihoods due to rioting or arson; one day a thriving enterprise and then literally everything in stock looted away or their store burned in one evening, and insurance often invoking the ‘looting is not covered’ or ‘acts of God not covered’ clause afterwards.
But God says to us ‘Trust Me, I will not forget you – I have your back.’ I am thankful that the Lord has spared most from the worst, and that I have the good health to continue writing these posts. I am thankful our house, and our southwest Florida communities as a whole, have not been subject to widespread catastrophic destruction, from either hurricanes or by the hands of man.
But I also know some have had great damage done, especially in the coastal areas that were hard hit. Others have had medical issues that have taken away not only their health, but their jobs or savings that add financial woes to their troubles. Yet the Believer who has Faith, in spite of their troubles, also have peace knowing the Lord is with them and has not forsaken or given up on them. I trust in the Lord’s protection over us, and that if something should happen, while I am not in control, God is in control and will always be in control!
