Our ‘New’ Technologies Aren’t New To God
Word-Of-The-Day: ‘<God’s> divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.’ (2 Peter 1:3)
Over the last year, there has been a breakthrough in labs on fusion-energy generation, where an experiment with lasers duplicates (on a much, much smaller scale) the power our Sun makes. Fusion energy is what the Sun does to generate its heat and light; hydrogen atoms fuse together to form helium, which sounds simple except it takes pressure and energy to start the process, which in the past mankind could do only within a thermo-nuclear device, needing a fission (uranium or plutonium atoms dividing via ‘critical mass’) device to explode first to create enough energy for fusion to begin.
The other problem is avoiding the explosion that typically occurred when the fusion bomb started… fusing and releasing the power created (rather abruptly and instantaneously). However, it appears that scientists were able to start the fusion process with lasers creating plasma (the fourth form of matter besides gas, liquid, and solid) that can safely and without explosions kickstart the fusion process.
The great news is fusion does not create ‘carbon’ waste, nor does it create radioactive waste. Electric vehicles that plug into the grid are likely not going to be the long-term answer, but perhaps an electric vehicle running on its own fusion reactor may be. While we may not yet see flying cars that can jump space-time with a ‘Mr. Fusion’ engine or a flux capacitor, we may see the actual viable replacement of the internal combustion engine.
This is a leap of technology for mankind, but remember God did it first – the Sun and all stars are already big ‘fusion generators’ that powers our universe, giving us heat and light while holding our solar system in place. It is new to us, but to God it’s ‘old technology’ and not a surprise to Him at all.
The power generation that really counts in our lives is God’s; God’s power is what generates the movement of everything else. We get preoccupied with things such as ‘climate change’, ‘carbon emissions’, and other forms of stuff that (in my opinion) is utter nonsense to worry about. Sea levels rising? Look at coastal photos from 100-plus years ago, and there is no change to the water level; the ozone ‘hole’ over the Arctic? It opened, then closed, on its own. We do need to make the effort, as God’s stewards over His creation, to take care of our Earth and its environment, but we should not manufacture crises when there is none to be concerned about.
God will provide for us what we need (Philippians 4:19), and that includes the means to create energy, to manufacture, live, and travel. Jesus tells us He will bless us if we have Faith (Luke 12:31); the fear of running out of fossil fuel has always been proven wrong when more is found, and the fear of us destroying the ecosystem has never materialized into fact. Should God want us to go ‘electric’ or ‘electric/fusion’. He will allow us to develop the technology to use it.
The most important thing is that we need to trust Him, to obey His words and do His bidding by holding firm onto His precepts. We have everything we need and would ever need, if we follow Him and continue to learn about Him through Scriptures, Fellowship, and prayer. Plug into the ultimate power source, God Himself!
