Have Faith Jesus Is With You, To Accomplish All Needing To Be Done
Word-Of-The-Day: ‘Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.”’ (Matthew 21:21)
Recently, at the Yeager household, we’ve had a string of issues befall us that has required me to put on my ‘repairman’ hat, something I had put in my mental closet a while back. Normally, I’ll schedule repairs with a professional, or order a replacement item at the first sign of trouble – but while the item is still working so there is little downtime.
Unfortunately, the last couple of weeks had one of the pumps in our ‘two-pump’ well water system stop working, and then later our washing machine’s door mechanism, along with a seal clamp, broke so the door would not lock shut. I knew the pump in question was likely to stop working, and I was preparing to have a professional well bubba come and replace it; I had bought a replacement pump for each a few years ago so I would simply need him to install it.
However, the pump died on a Saturday night. So, on Sunday after church (praise the Lord we have a pool, which ironically rumors swirled that morning, of reports of Sasquatch sightings in our neighborhood flooded the police switchboard), in order to get running water back in our home quickly, I replaced the pump and its associated pressure tank myself.
With the Lord’s help in providing me his guiding hand, it took me about five hours total, or about four hours longer than the professional, but we had water flowing in our home by Sunday right as the sun was setting.
A week later, the door latch decided to break off on the washing machine. Not wanting to wait on a repairman, I ordered the parts needed, and two days later they came in. This time, it only took a couple of hours to do the repairs, the longest item being the circular clamp that had broken holding the seal around the mouth of the washer. It is now working, with no leaks and likely saved a couple hundred of dollars and a couple of days of time waiting on a repairman to come. I thank the Lord for His wisdom and provisions to allow me to repair the washer!
The verse, Matthew 21:21, is in reference to the time Jesus walked past a fig tree, saw it had no fruit, so cursed it so it would wither and die – which it did! Now there’s a couple of things we could get into regarding the fig tree itself, but let’s focus on what Jesus said about having Faith.
We often need to force ourselves out of our comfort zones. I’m not fond for automotive ‘wrenching’ myself, so there’s a benefit servicing our cars through a mechanic in a shop. It comes with the benefit being I don’t have to do it, so that’s a win-win for me and the car.
I did work on our cars when I was younger, when the cost/benefit analysis of water pump or alternator replacements, or oil changes, favored me doing it – having no money usually throws it to that choice. Even with most car issues meaning a trip to the dealer’s service department or a shop in town, something like a radiator hose popping in the late afternoon, or having a dead battery that won’t jump start, usually forces me to get out of my comfort zone and into mechanic mode, and start working on a hot car on a hot Florida day under the hood to get it back up and running.
Now I know I have the skills to that, and also to do things like replace a dead well pump or fix a broken door latch on the washer. I also have Faith that the Lord will allow me to do it correctly. The Lord will allow us to overcome obstacles, whether it be lack of skills or knowledge, or personal doubt, if you earnestly ask Him for His guidance. You may not think you can do something, but with Jesus you should know you absolutely can accomplish all things through Him!
While these may be weak examples, know that in all aspects of your life Jesus is with you and sees your life as a whole. There is no compartmentalization when it comes to your life; Jesus does not look at it as ‘well, you have your Spiritual life that I’ll work with you on – but you take care of your material life, your financial life, your home life, your ‘this or that’ life, etc.’
Jesus does not look at the broken radiator hose and say, ‘that’s a messy situation, you’re on your own with fixing that’, nor does he say that when you have a spousal disagreement, or when your bank informs you that you still have checks but no money to back them. Jesus works in you and with you for all of your needs. He is your Lord in ALL of your life, not just when the church doors or the Bible opens.
Faith is knowing Jesus has your back. If I must do something perhaps beyond what I think I’m capable of on my own, my Faith is Jesus provides me everything I need for the job. He provides the knowledge and skills upon me to accomplish the task, or perhaps a friend who does these things regularly to come and help. It may be to provide the financial resources to accomplish done through a professional. In His glory, Jesus provides what is needed at the right time to accomplish the task at hand.
As He wrote, with Faith mountains can be moved, trees can come down, and was needs to happen will, to the glory of God in the Highest. You can do all things in Christ (Philippians 4:13), and with Christ. Always remember your God-Math: God + you = A majority who can do all things!
