Endurance brought on by faith

Have you seen the series, “Band of Brothers?”  It always amazes me what this unit of men was called to do, to endure and asked to accomplish.  If you have seen the entire series, you will remember Mount Currahee, that three-mile climb up and back down that helped to condition, unite and make Easy Company the band it became.  The rigors of their training made them physically able, while establishing an undying loyalty to each other.  The entire series is a study in their endurance of the race set before this group of men.

Hebrews 11 is a chronicle of the race run with endurance by faith of many Old Testament saints.  And today’s message from Hebrews 12:1-13 is the call to today’s children of God to run the race (whatever it entails for each individual) with endurance brought on by faith in Christ, who saved us.  His example set before us shows that no matter the terrain, the height, the conditions, we can successfully trust Him to provide the strength to run to the end of the race.

Mount Currahee is a Cherokee word that means “stand alone.”  This became the motto of Easy Company.  They stood alone, together with and for each other.  Our motto should never be “stand alone,” but that we stand in the power of the Holy Spirit, together with other believers who are running the race with endurance brought on by faith.  You are never alone, unless you choose to be alone as a child of God.  Instead, remember the words of 1 Peter 5:6-7, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”  Run with endurance, knowing by faith that you never run alone!

Pressing On…
