Cuba Mission Trips in 2025

Murdock Baptist Church has partnered with the recently renovated Eben-Ezer Baptist Church in Camajuani, Cuba.  It is a city of 70,000 people located deep in the interior of Cuba about 150 miles from Havana.  Pastor Alvares has church missionaries who are responsible for various areas of the city.  These local missionaries are active in meeting, discipling and sharing the gospel with those in their assigned area.  In the weeks before our visits, they canvass the people who are not believers and ask them if they would like to have a missions group from the USA visit them to talk about coming into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  We go out in teams of two or three along with the missionary and an interpreter to these prearranged home visits.  During our last visit we visited 40 homes and led 37 adults to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

We also prepare and lead a Women’s Bible study each morning, a Children’s ministry each evening and preaching on Sunday and Thursday nights.

Our Goal

There are 4 main goals for our Cuba missions ministry:

  • to prepare and equip team members so that they are able and eager to share their testimony and the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.  This training is not only useful for our interactions with Cubans but also for the rest of our lives as we interact with family, friends and people that God puts in our path;
  • to share the love of Christ and His saving grace with the people of Camajuani and lead them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and a personal relationship with God;
  • to encourage, uplift and model discipleship to the believers in the Eben-Ezer Baptist Church, in Camajuani and the surrounding area so that they may grow and make disciples of Jesus Christ;
  • to support the Pastor and the church in their ministry, growth and humanitarian needs.

Our Experience

Typically, a team of 10 go twice per year in May and November.  In a group setting we prepare by learning some Cuban culture, some Spanish greetings, how to share our salvation testimony and the Gospel message. The trips run from Saturday to Saturday flying from Tampa early, via Havana and arriving by bus in Camajuani about 5 pm.  On Sunday we preach, lead the children’s ministry, and rest.  On weekday mornings we lead a Women’s Bible study and two teams go out to home visits.   After lunch in the church, three teams go out to home visits and return for the children’s ministry at 4pm.  Supper is at 6:30 followed by a team meeting.  We sleep on bunk beds.  We are assigned a driver, a water purification man and a translator when we pass through Havana.  We also carry a generator and fuel.  On Friday we return to Havana and have a few hours for shopping, city tour and supper at a restaurant in center city.  On Saturday we fly back to Tampa and arrive home in mid-afternoon.

The cost of the trip is about $500 per person.  Recently electricity has been sporadic and lasts only a few hours per day due to the fuel shortage.  We are praying for the situation in Cuba which has caused fuel and food shortages to be critical.

Our Success

All team members shared their testimonies which made for open doors for us to share the Gospel. Each team member played an important and additive part in the success of this mission trip.  They endured the living conditions with grace and thankfulness.  They each said that they certainly felt the hand of God upon them – and the Holy Spirit working through them to change lives during this mission.
